Andrew County was originally a part of the Platte Purchase of 1836 and was viewed as a land of opportunity. Savannah, Missouri was selected as the county seat of Andrew County in 1841 and quickly grew and prospered. Originally called the town of Union, the name was changed to Savannah. The town of Savannah was approved for incorporation in 1853.
